A dip belt is a type of belt that you can hang weight plates from to increase the load in different exercises. These belts are equipped with a chain and carabiner that you use to attach the weights. Sometimes they are also called “weight belts”. They should not be confused with a lifting belt.
The most common exercises for which a dips belt is used are chins and dips, as you can probably tell from the name. But you can also use it for arm-walking or similar bodyweight exercises, for example. Another alternative to the dips belt is a weight vest.
Why a dip belt?
The advantage of a dips belt over a weight vest is that you can quickly and easily change the weight by hanging or removing weight plates. It takes much longer to remove the weight bags in a vest and you are limited by the maximum weight of the vest which may be 10, 20 or 30kg. The advantage of a vest then is that it fits much better and tighter around the body and you can do more exercises as well as walking and jogging.
What to consider when buying
If you’re buying a dips belt, there are a few things you should consider. Firstly, it’s a good idea if it’s made from leather material, preferably genuine leather as it lasts best. Then it’s nice if you have padding at the back so the belt doesn’t chafe too much.
