An effective training tool for balance, core and stability is the half balance ball. This training tool became popular at the end of the 1990s under the brand name “BOSU” and the balls are therefore commonly referred to as Bosuboll. BOSU stands for Both Sides Up. The name Bosuboll is trademarked but there are identical models that have the same functions and features and usually a much lower price.
What is a Half Balance Ball?
Since they are usually called by the trademarked name Bosuboll, there is no directly accepted name for them beyond that. However, they are often referred to as half balance ball, half pilates ball, half ball or sometimes just balance ball.
Just as the name suggests, they are designed as a “half” ball. This is also what gives them their unique features. You can use them on both sides.
Either you have the flat hard bottom side down, in which case it resembles a Pilates ball to some extent. Or you can turn it over and have the soft inflated part facing down, in which case it’s more like a balance plate.
Thunder Fitness sells a quality half balance ball that is extra versatile as it is equipped with rubber bands on the sides. You can find it right below!
